Sep 27, 2022| According to The Verge, Apple may be cracking down on apps that don't get updates. In an email to affected developers, Apple warned that it would remove apps from the App Store "that haven't been updated for an extended period of time" and give developers 30 days to update them.
"You can enable new users to discover and download this app from the App Store by submitting an update for review within 30 days," Apple wrote in an email. "If an update is not submitted within 30 days, the app will be taken down."
Many app developers, such as Protopop Games developer Robert Kabwe, have expressed their concerns about the change. Kabwe said on Twitter that Apple threatened to remove his game Motivoto because it had not been updated since March 2019.
In addition, Kosta Eleftheriou, the developer of the FlickType Apple Watch keyboard, and Emilia Lazer-Walker, a game developer, have all received emails from Apple.
Earlier this month, the Google Play Store similarly announced that it would begin restricting the visibility of apps "not targeting the API level within two years of the latest Android release." Android developers have until November 1, 2022 to update their apps, but if they can't meet the deadline, they have the option to request a six-month extension.
